According to a recent story in Light Reading (link below) Lyca is planning to expand it’s dealer network in the US. This comes after a recent story where LYCA slashed it’s UK employee count by 90% (see story) and other articles where Lyca said they would expand operations into new markets while “streamlining” others (see Mobile World Live story below)
We certainly hope the most recent story is accurate (NWIDA is all about the dealer after all), but LYCA has been known to (a) turn-over their US operations staff and (b) switch gears.
Having said that, the recent LYCA press release indicated that they now have “ambitious” growth plans in the US this year. Lyca is looking to expand its customer base in part by doubling its dealer network, adding more small, independent dealers and introducing more localized promotions tailored to US customers.
In addition, LYCA has renewed its contract renewal with epay, and said it will use epay’s Webpos retailer platform to improve its dealer experience and efficiency.
“By combining Lycamobile’s competitive offerings with epay’s seamless commission structure, we’re not only simplifying the activation process but also empowering our dealer network to deliver even more value to customers,” Gillian Carlton, Lyca’s sales director in the US, said in a statement. “This collaboration is a significant step forward in enhancing the overall dealer experience and reinforcing our commitment to customer satisfaction.”
Of course, the question still remains – on what network? And, who’s in charge?
Lyca and T-Mobile have famously sued each other, and the most recent contract was for only 1 year. In addition, LYCA has signed a deal with AT&T. The T-Mobile contract expires in 2025, and to date LYCA has made no (public) effort to move their current customers to the AT&T backed network – a job that would normally take years based on their subscriber count.
In addition, LYCA hasn’t had a “head” of US Operations for a while. Steven Stoklos was running the show on a consultant basis, but it’s our understanding he’s left. To date, we haven’t heard of anyone in the US that has taken that position.
