National Wireless Independent Dealer Association

One of the things I like to do best, is visit with dealers – and other industry experts. Well, this week, I had the chance to visit with one of the Ultra Master Agents – and some of his dealers.

NWIDA Ultra

He wanted to chat about the “Ultra Difference” for retailers – and (full transparency) – while Ultra has been a NWIDA member for a number of years, I was curious what had changed since they became a brand and no longer an MVNO when T-Mobile bought them in 2023 (see T-Mobile buys…)

Here’s what I learned:

First – you won’t find an “Ultra Store” – they want their dealers to diversify.

I have to say… their dealer communications are top-notch. When I was a Master Agent, we tried to be as transparent as we could with the dealers. Ultra is doing this as good as anyone – probably better than anyone.

Their dealer communication is both timely and transparent. In addition, they trust the dealers to serve their customers. The dealers have a number of tools right in their portal – allowing them to do many things other brands force the dealer to “call in” for.

Their dealer comp is more than fair. The dealers we spoke with said it was accurate and paid on-time. They receive detailed statements. And, the Ultra Mobile Field Team visits Retailers and provides regular updates and merchandising.

NWIDA has NO problem recommending Ultra to multi-carrier dealers looking to add a top brand, on the T-Mobile network. If you’re interested in learning more, visit here.

T-Mobile moves towards all-digital — no dealers

Way back in September, 2024 we posted about Jon Freier (COO at T-Mobile) starting to close their retail stores (link.)  At that time, Jon was quoted: “Is brick-and-mortar retail dead? Here’s what I think: Yes, the way we’ve known it is dead.” Last week, Phone Arena (link below) posted details from an internal T-Mobile memo where Freier stated: Read more…
