A newly established ransomware group appears to have hacked Trump Mobile, exposing personal data on 3,615 customers, according to a report by Straight Arrow News.
The exposed records include Eric Brunnett, VP and CIO of the Trump Organization, whose LinkedIn profile says he oversees information technology and information security for the organization.
Straight Arrow’s review of the data found first and last names, email addresses, telephone numbers, home addresses, and order details.
One customer confirmed he had sent a $100 deposit last year for the company’s T1 phone and never received a device. Other records show purchases of mobile plans.
Several people confirmed the personal details were accurate, then said they were not customers and hung up.The group, known as BYOD, posted the data to a dark-web leak site last week along with a statement about the breach. The group claimed Trump Mobile replied that it had no team to handle the incident.
A representative for BYOD said the access came after malware infected an employee at Liberty Mobile, which is the underlying MVNO for Trump Mobile.
BYOD also claimes the group still has access to Trump Mobile’s backend dashboard and showed a screenshot of customer data.
Trump Mobile did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
