What’s going on with the Wireless Repair World? Glad you asked!

  • Google Pixel Watch 4: The new model is now repair-friendly, allowing battery replacements without damaging the device.
  • Retailers and Repair: The National Retail Federation (NRF) has absorbed the Reverse Logistics Association, signaling major retailers’ focus on repairability.
  • Europe’s Right to Repair: EU campaigners warn that ending Windows 10 support could render 400 million PCs obsolete. New rules require phone and tablet makers to provide spare parts within 5–10 days.
  • iPhone Repairability: The iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro scored 7/10 for repairability, featuring modular designs and easier battery replacements.

State Legislative Updates

  • In 2025, all U.S. state legislatures are addressing Right to Repair bills. 11 states have passed laws covering electronics, farm equipment, and more, impacting 33% of the U.S. population.
  • Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts are expected to pass laws soon.

Enforcement Updates

  • Consumers in New York, Minnesota, and California can file repair complaints with their Attorney General.
  • Oregon and Colorado will begin enforcing repair laws for electronics and appliances starting January 1, 2025.

Federal Legislative Updates

  • Freedom to Fix Act: A new bill by Rep. Darryl Issa aims to legalize software repair tools, addressing DMCA Section 1201 restrictions.

What’s Next?

  • Over 35 states are considering repair legislation, with bipartisan support growing. Advocacy efforts continue to push for consumer rights and industry accountability.

Verizon Sells Corporate Stores to Dealers

Verizon is selling 274 company-owned retail stores and cutting about 500 corporate jobs as part of its current restructuring.
