The FCC has made a decision to NOT allow in-flight phone calls. The proposal was first made seven years ago.
The FCC explained that the proposal received “strong opposition”. They stated that even airline pilots and flight attendants were against it. One group even shared how in-flight voice calls posed a “potential for air rage” and could distract passengers from listening to safety instructions. It also posed a potential problem for flight attendants as their attention could be diverted and they would be unable to perform their safety and security duties.
Instead of making in-flight voice calls, passengers can still choose to communicate through their laptops or smartphones. And now that Wi-Fi is available on many airlines, it makes sense why many aren’t too happy with the idea of making a voice call during a flight.
