The TMo Report has posted (link below) leaked screenshots that show T-Mobile will be shutting down the Sprint LTE network on June 30th 2022, and confirms the Sprint 3G CDMA shutdown of January 1st, 2022.
It also confirmed T-Mobile will shutdown it’s own 3G in October 2021, and it’s 2G in December of 2022.
“Now that Sprint is T-Mobile, we’re combining Sprint’s assets with T-Mobile’s to deliver a transformative 5G network experience from big cities to small towns and everywhere in between, and we are moving quickly to build our most advanced network ever for our customers. To accomplish this, we will retire the Sprint CDMA and LTE networks to free up spectrum that will help us strengthen our entire network and move all customers to more advanced technologies like 4G & 5G.”
T-Mobile also stated that on July 7th they began sending out network updates that force-enabled VoLTE on Sprint devices, even if it had been manually disabled.
NWIDA has learned that Gen Mobile and Boost have begun a round of employee layoffs. Boost is re-organizing from 6 regions to 4, eliminating 2 Director level positions and most, if not all, the staff under them. According to an exclusive report in the Wall Street Journal, Charlie Ergen – Chairman of Echostar/Boost has purchased a controlling interest in MobileX via an SPAC – which means MobileX could become a publicly traded company. SpaceX is exploring a new kind of U.S. mobile network built around Starlink equipment and the spectrum it has acquired from EchoStar. Instead of investing heavily in traditional cell towers, the company is considering smaller cellular units—potentially integrated with existing Starlink satellite dishes. Verizon is selling 274 company-owned retail stores and cutting about 500 corporate jobs as part of its current restructuring. About 3,000 jobs are impacted all together, close to 2,500 are retail employees.
