Blue Wireless, a regional carrier serving customers in New York and Pennsylvania has shut down and has sold its spectrum to Verizon.
Blue informed their customers in April, saying they would be gone in 90 days (in July.) Blue did not transfer its customers to Verizon or anyone else, but Wave 7 has posted a picture of a sign at an upstate NY Metro store saying “Welcome Blue Wireless Customers” (in an effort to get them to switch (see image right.)
According to the Buffalo News, Blue Wireless has been running since 2004 and as late as 2018, it sponsored a free Wi-Fi installation in Buffalo. The company is also known as “Buffalo-Lake Erie Wireless,” whose initials sound the same as “blue.”
Customers in these areas will be losing out on some good rate plans. Blue offered a $20/month, UNL Talk/Text and LTE data, with unlimited hotspot usage.
