T-Mobile has begun signing multi-year lease agreements with a number of 600 MHz spectrum holders. Specifically, T-Mobile entered into a 3-year lease agreement for 600 MHz spectrum with entities controlled by Columbia Capital. The agreement includes spectrum in 17 markets representing 100 million POPs, and includes markets like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston.
Not only does it provide T-Mo with more spectrum to increase their 5G coverage, it will help facilitate the transition of Sprint customers to T-Mobile US’s network … and provide coverage infills for Sprint customers with compliant LTE band 71 devices”
However, these leases currently do not provide T-Mobile the option to purchase at end of 3-year term.
T-Mobile currently owns 45% of all 600 MHz spectrum available for wireless operators. Dish, Of the remaining spectrum, Comcast and Columbia Capital own 73% of that.
