StraightTalk Customers Get Email About CDMA Extension

NWIDA has received a copy of an email StraightTalk has sent out, stating that they’ve negotiated an extension of the CDMA end-of-life to the Summer of 2020.

We have confirmed with Straight Talk that this is for the Verizon Network only.

The text of the email is below. We are checking with other MVNOs to see if they received the same, and will update this post as we get additional information.

You May Have Heard…

Our carrier partner is making network changes in order to improve your overall service. These changes will prevent your current phone from working. In order to avoid a loss of service, you will need to upgrade your phone.

This Is Great News!

We negotiated with our network partner to extend the deadline until the Summer of 2020. You now have more time to purchase a phone compatible with the improved network.

Take Advantage of Early Deals

Before the network changes take place, take advantage of the early deals to consider your upgrade options for a smoother transition.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 that uses LTE/CDMA, will my phone still have full functionality? Would I need to get a new SIM card? What is the reality of the situation for owners of phones like these?

My phone is LG Rebel 4G LTE from tracfone. Will it work after Dec. 31. 2019? Please let me know. Thank you.

Funny, I never got that email. I received the email about the services going down by the end of the year and that I would need to buy a new phone or lose service completely, but not the email about the date before the service is ended being extended to 2020.
