It’s All About Spectrum

FCC NWIDAThe most recent FCC spectrum auction has ended – the “C-Band” and the results are in.

In the C band auction, about 280 MhZ of spectrum was reallocated to cellular companies. The spectrum is in the frequency range 3.7-3.98GHz.

57 qualified companies entered the bidding, which added over $81 Billion in revenue, and here are the big winners:

  • Verizon won over 3500 licenses (for $45B)
  • AT&T won over 1600 licenses (for $23B)
  • T-Mobile won over 140 licenses (for $9B)
  • US Cellular won over 250 licenses (for $1.2B)

Dish only won 1 license (for $2.5MM), but they still have plenty of spectrum from other (past) auctions.

Comcast and Charter teamed up in the bidding, but did not win any licenses.
